I ended up with the Malware Defense infection yesterday. I went through a few tutorials to remove it and ended up using Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware program to get rid of it. While it cleaned up the problem I still have some lingering effects from it and its being a nuisance. I'm unable to launch Kaspersky at all. I try to run it but nothing happens when it is executed.

There's an iexplore.exe process that continually runs, I use Mozilla so it caught my eye when I was checking my processes after a freeze. If left alone, it usually freezes my computer after about 10 minutes of us. Force quitting the process removes it from the list but it just reappears another minute or so later. I haven't froze since but haven't done anything other than the preperation for this post (using my second computer for web browsing). Also, when I click links random sites are redirected to instead of the one I actually want to go to. Mostly happens when I was using Google to check processes. Was using Mozilla as the browser at the time.

I'm not sure if it is related or not, but since this infection my computer has had trouble restarting. It shuts down fine in most cases, but will freeze in the blue Welcome screen of XP before it hits the desktop.

Ran another Malwarebyte's scan and it fixed a few more problems. The iexplore.exe process is gone and not recurring, any other help would be appreciated though.
