Hi, thanks for being here.

I discovered the Security tools malware when logging into my user account.
Couldn't bring up regedit or task manager.

I rebooted the computer: dell, XP service pack 2

Booting Windows results in black screen.
Can boot into recovery console.
I don't have a windows disk.

(I have the recovery console as a by product of running Combo Fix a year or so ago) Thanks! it saved the day.

System was clean of malware as of this weekend (I run spybot search and destroy / tea timer)

I am an embedded systems programmer by trade, have written VxDs way back when: and it don't help much!

Problem solved. Got into safemode, ran malwarebytes anti-malware. It works great, it found/fixed a number of other bad things as well.
