can i disable download manager in firefox 3.5

can i disable download manager in firefox 3.5 as i prefer another downloader. i dont want to modify it but accually stop it

AFAIK, you can't disable a browser's standard download manager/interface.
However, you can use other download manager/accelerator programs to handle http and ftp download from sites, by default.

i understood that u could disable it when installing firefox ...which is slightly different, do u know if this is correct

i have FDM [free download manager] which has given up being the default downloader , and cant see any options to that end

i understood that u could disable it when installing firefox ...which is slightly different to turning it off, do u know if this is correct
