Hi everyone. I got a homemade computer with a 1.2 Duron, 256mb Ram, and WinXP home. Sometimes I'll leave it on to do something (like an update) and leave it and come back later when I finally remember I left the computer on. When I came back to it today though, it was at the screen you get when you start your computer and press F8 before it boots and has options for safe mode, etc. But it was frozen at the screen and the cpu fan wasnt going (the cpu fan is 45db  -the first time my room was quiet while the computer was on!! :flowers: ) But the 2 other case fans and the P.S. fan were running. I have no idea how long it'd been running this way, but i turned it off cause i didnt want to fry my 2nd cpu. I let it cool down for a few hours and it seemed to work fine, but I had to put the cpu fan connector on a different PS connector for it to work. (The case fans and the cpu fans were on the same connector and the case fans still work fine :trumpet: ) But when I booted up it said "XP has recovered from a fatal error" but other than that there was nothing else. Also the event log/viewer was clear of errors. All i want to know is why it did this so i can stop it from happening again.

It sounds like the CPU fan seized up. They are fairly cheap and its probably best to get a new one.
