Glad I found this site but miffed that this has to be my first post.
Running xp home on my main computer and firefox. Clicked on a site looking for a recovery disk download for a friend and got infected.
Personal security has frozen out my desktop and replaced it with a fake screen - I can only access my sesktop for a second on startup. As this stops me getting on the net I have borrowed this laptop to gain access and have downloaded the four versions of rkill linked to from this site and put them on a memory stick. When put in my main computer I get the 'flash' of the dos box but I am unable to do much as I get the message 'windows cannot access the specified path...... may not have administrator rights' as soon as I try to run any anti virus or removal tool. Basically, rkill is not disabling personal security. When coupled with our water being frozen so no tea (yes I am British) I am not having a good time.
Have never loved a stranger before, could you be the first by helping me?

Am back up running again.
Achieved this by running rkill and malwarebytes from safe mode.
Sorry I can't post a log but when I rebooted in normal mode there was no log available
