Posted 07 January 2010 - 04:32 PM

I was searching for Disney shows and my IE 7 browser went crazy - popup after popup with error after error. I X'd out of everything and got the popups and browser closed.

Then Windows Security Center popped up with some error and a security window that said, you have a virus or something and it wanted me to buy something. I X'd out of all those. I looked in the system tray for Norton and noticed that it was gone suddenly. I opened it in My Programs and ran it - I did a whole scan and it said it removed Trojan.fakeAV (or similar) and Trojan_downloader.js.multi.ca.

Then I restarted. Once booted, everything appeared normal. I tried to open IE7 to go online and IE opened but acted like I wasn't online.

I got a error popup regarding the google downloader that said an error occured, would I like to send a report to Microsoft or not send a report. (I have been choosing not to send a report)

Then I looked into the internet issues. I checked my network connections - all fine. I pinged a URL and it pinged just fine. So I was online after all, but this malware had hijacked IE 7.

I tried to open up Norton again, but this time I was getting an error from Norton that it failed to open.

I read some posts online and heard about malwarebytes. I downloaded it and tried to install it, but it won't install. I even renamed it but it keeps getting shutdown. (well, the process is running, but it never runs visibly.)

Then I uninstalled Norton and could get online. I turned on the Windows Firewall and downloaded and installed ESET NOD32 30 day trial. Started a scan and turned on it's firewall.

ESET found Kryptik and Olmarik. It deleted-quarantined Kryptik, but Olmarik is still running in memory and ESET can't remove it.

I found this site and worked through the instructions on submitting a request.

I ran dds.scr and have that report.

When I run RootRepeal.exe, the computer bluescreens and restarts immediately. So quickly I can't read what's on the bluescreen. This is odd because bluescreens usually lock a computer and have to be unplugged in order to restart.

So, I can't get a RootRepeal report...

Thanks in advance for all your help!!! If it weren't for you guys, I'd have to reformat.

Here is the DDS >>>
