So I had that "windows defender" virus (please ecuse typos - it's late, I am frustrated and tried). I ran "spy-bot and Malwarebytes and no longer have the browser hijacked. However the browser keeps reading "internet exp cannot ddisplay the page". This even comes up if I try to go to my router (192.168.1.1). Once i drop the firewalls I can ping the router and get a reply but it is followed by "TTL expired in transit". That may be normal but i do not do this often so I am not sure. I know I still have internet connection since I am using my laptop thru the same connection/router so something must still be swtched on going on with the desktop. I tried unplugging the modem and restarting the computer but nothing chnaged. If I do the "diagnose the problem" it tells me it "cannot connect to the HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP usually caused by the firewall". As far as I know I have dropped all the firewalls (and the window security center confirms firewall is off.

I am sort of baffled and like I said have some but not a ton of experience with this stuff. Any, and I do mean any hep and guidence would be appreciated. Please be specific as i am a bit of a novice for the most part. I have had great expereinces here when I got in trouble before so hopefully someone can get me up and running agin. Ugh, what a PITA. Thanks in advance.

No one? Should this be posted in a different forum?
