Hi all, I just got this problem yesterday and it's driving me crazy. My Asus laptop froze while I was in the midst of surfing so I had to do a hard power off. After that, I could not get my Vista to load properly. I just get a black screen after the windows loading (with the moving green bar) and its stuck there for ever.

Attempts to boot up in safemode, safemode with network, safemode with command prompt didnt work, it just freezes at crcdisk.sys line. Last good configuration didn't work either. So I tried to boot up from the recovery disc burnt from neosmart.

Got to the 4th figure in the tutorial here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-windows-with-windows-startup-repair/ but another window pops up saying "Searching for windows installation" and this keeps on running. I am unable to click the "next" button in figure 4 even though I do see the MIcrosoft Windows Vista listed.

Any ideas why I am getting this additional popup that prevents me from proceeding to the next step?
