Hello!

My computer is a little over 6 years old now, and never have I had to deal with a recurring problem as annoying as this.

IMO, the problem began when I may have accidentally clicked on an ad or banner of some sort. An adobe flash updater loaded (I can't remember exactly), and then the problems began. I may not have even have realized the first time I saw the "Google Installer has encountered a problem" error, and I simply clicked do not send to get rid of it, and tried to go along my business. I started watching a movie, and I was interrupted when an audio advertisement began playing. When I realized there were no open windows or anything else that could be possibly playing it, I immediately realized something fishy was going on. Since then, I have been trying to fix the problem on my own, but from what I have read, I think this may be a "rootkit" type infection, and it comes back even after the computer has been cleaned, usually right at startup. The advertisements come and go, sometimes playing once, or for a few minutes, and then disappearing for hours.

At first I only tried running ad-aware, and I dl'ed the new version. This did not help much, other than remove a bunch of old spyware that has probably been sitting on my computer that I hadn't noticed (I havn't had to deal with malicious programs in a long time).

Then I really started researching online for solutions. This is when I realized I also had a problem with being redirected, especially when trying to click on anti-virus/malware links, through google. Since then, the redirection problem has been solved, but I am mentioning it to make sure anyone willing to help me aware that it was there, and may still be unknowingly to me.

At the moment, the programs I have at my disposal are:
Ad-Aware
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (Had difficulties installing/running this but through changing app filename succeeded)
SUPERantispyware (Had difficulties installing/running this but through changing app filename succeeded)
Symantec Antivirus
ComboFix (I won't run this until a professional helper directs me how to use it correctly)

Thanks for your help!

Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
  • Please download OTL from following mirror:
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.
