I have a Kingston 4GB DataTraveler which has stopped responding. If you try to open it in Windows, a message says:
"Please insert a disk in Drive (drive letter)"

in Ubuntu linux, the message is:
"Unable to mount location"
"No media in the drive"

If I try to format it in Windows, a message says:
"There is no disk in Drive (drive letter)"
"Insert a disk, then try again"

Any ideas about what the problem is? TIA

Are there any yellow exclamation points by the USB controllers in Device Manager?

Try connecting it to another computer and formatting it.

Thanks to both.

Mark, the first one of the three "USB Mass Storage Devices" has a yellow exclamation point in front.

ReviverSoft, I have tried the thumbdrive in about 3 other computers and in various ports.

Does it show some kind of error, when you double-click the USB listing with the 'yellow exclamation mark'?

How about reinstalling the USB driver from the Driver CD that shipped with your motherboard?
