I was recently infected with a Trojan a few weeks back where the kind chap from HJT forum (Syler) assisted in the removal of the problem.

It became apparent that i was running on Service Pack 2. When using the Windows automatic update service, the Service pack 3 gets to about 60% complete where it then states "access denied" and unistalled itself.

I have also tried to install the service pack from my desktop after downloading it from the Windows download centre. Again it gets part way through to then state "Failed to install catalog files"

Any ideas to get Service Pack 3 on my machine??

Worth a look, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798.

Possibly easier attempt at http://www.rarst.net/software/failed-install-catalog-files/

More info at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717.
