On 12/26 I get the dreaded system defender popup. I never did accept it, but, seems it gave me quite a bit. I ran malkwarebyte's anti malware which caught a lot etc. I still had the search redirect (going to google, doing a search, then every link I clicked on was redirected). So, I ran it again and it didnt find anything. Nextr day I still had the redirects so i ran it again and it showed nothing. Cleaned out my hosts file, still redirecting. Next I ran DrWeb which found backdoor.tdds, eradicated it, and moved a winvnc.ocx.
It also found mcAfeee quaranrteens etc....
Still redirecting searches.
Next I ran hijackthis, then the dds.scr and rootkitbuster.
I still have the redirects....
I have the logs from everything........
I am at a loss and really don't want to lose this workstation without doing everything I can, so, If anyone can help I appreciate it.
