Hello! First post here. My computer runs windows xp and I used the excellent instructions from this site (rkill.com and Malwarebytes) to remove Malware Defense and some fake porn icons (other malware) last night. After that I still had pop ups so ran "Super antispyware 4.32.1000 Today I got a call from home that Internet Explorer 7 is not opening or frozen. A green box appears on the screen and that is it. The Task Manager says IE is running. I figured if I will fix one problem at a time and this seems like a good one. Just got another call... I don't know if this is a separate issue or not but a pop up just came on that says "PC pitstop optimize2 welcome" and apparently it is personalized with an icon on the desktop as well.

Thanks for any suggestions. I am heartened that the computer is so much better today but it seems there is a long way to go!

I would install IE8 and see if that overcomes the IE situation.

Thank you. This may seem like a silly question but if you can't access the internet how do you do that? Do I have to put the program on a memory stick from another computer to install or is there a way to do it directly?

Also, If I installed the pc pitstop it was a long time ago? Why is it showing up now? It also seems CA antivirus is finding more. Is it possible that the malware was inhibiting these programs or is the pc pitstop thing bad?

Thanks again.

You download IE8...on a different system.

It installs just like any other program, you can install it from CD, from your desktop...whatever.
