hey guys,

i am working on a windows xp home PC that was heavily infected.

IE, ff, opera, netscape browsers wont load a web page. the PC had all these browsers, i didnt add anything extra.

i can go into cmd prompt and ping and those are DNS servers. i get replies back all day long.

so it does have a connection to the internet, just not via the browser.

i checked the hosts file, it looks clean i only see localhost

IE isnt using any proxies

i started with my normal scans

spybot search and destroy.

all 3 programs found a handful of viruses.

i ran each program until there were no more traces on the PC.

i was hoping that getting rid of all the viruses would fix the issue.

nope, that didnt work.

i came to this site, got combofix and followed the guide, the only part of comobix that wouldnt run was the MS download. it said that i needed a connection to the internet.

i let it scan, it rebooted and did some more scanning upon the reboot.

i saw the log file that combofix had on my screen and that was as far as i went.

according to the tutorial, i am supposed to post the log in the thread to get some help, but i dont want to do that until i am asked to do so.

is this the proper forum for that?

any help is appreciated.

thank you.
