Hey guys, I recently purchased a bunch of new toys:

Intel Mobo DP55WB
WD HDD
4 GB DDR3 1333 mhz
Intel Core i5 2.66

Anyway, i completed a fresh install of Windows XP, everything going great, installing programs and what not, all of a sudden, the mouse freezes, the keyboard freezes, and i cannot access my external HDD.

I freaked out so i restarted, everything was working fine again, few min later, same thing.

I always have 4 USB slots being used, mouse, keyboard, external 1TB HDD, and a adsl modem.

I dont know what to do, Ive installed the mobo drivers and all, i just don't understand why they would stop working all of a sudden, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Best I can do, General USB Problems in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310575.

For less than $10, you can add a PCI USB card, providing more options.

thanks, im downloading the bios update now.

I hope this isnt a powersupply issue, the computer just freezes after a while. One thing to mention is that when i tried installing windows 7, it gave me an I/O error, dont know if that has anything to do with my problem, just thought ide share. thanks again.

Just tried that, no luck, I was just wondering what the possible reasons would be for the usbs to malfunction.

Did the bios update say it fixes using usb problems ? Because i hate when some thing fixes it self and then dies again after the warranty Lol

Here is an update, the USB ports don't freeze in safe mode, but they are still freezing in normal mode.

Besides this, what can we conclude from the fact that they work fine in safe mode?

This does not Compute to me, Mate!

That I/O error occured when I tries to install windows 7 via Flas drive but that was because it was a bad iso.

I will quitely retire from this.

Do you have any other devices USB devices plugged in besides the mouse and keyboard?

Edit: I see that you do. Since you do and of course you need the modem, try unplugging the external drive. Is it a self powered drive? What is your power supply?
