This is it folks: the sign that The End is here.

My grandpa, our beloved family curmudgeon, has bought a Mac.

Now, for most grandpa's out there, this wouldn't be a big deal. Macs are for the technically ungifted among us, right? (*ducks flying bricks*) And grandparents, above all others, are notorious for not being up-to-speed with the latest and greatest technological triumphs. But my grandpa is a super-techo-grandpa. My grandpa helped build particle accelerators! My grandpa is anything but your run-of-the-mill aged family patriarch; he even looks like the stereotypical Unix User! This is serious!

My grandpa gave me my first computer, his old PC clone running MS DOS version something.or.other, followed by his next hand-me-down, a PC Clone running Windows 3.11. He's the reason I got into computers in the first place. And now he has gone over to the Dark Side. Sure, they have cookies, but still...

So, farewell my friends. It's been good to know you. After the apocalypse, we should definitely have coffee or something.

Good for your Grandpa!

My Dad, mid '80s, lives by his email and TurboTax on his big ol' Vista box.

I've got a second hand, off-lease Lenovo in the closet with some hardware upgrades just waiting to be set up for Linux, but I'm waiting for my daughter to finish her high school computer hardware course. Should be a couple weeks.

BTW, as an old Bell Labs UNIX techie, I really resented that Dilbert cartoon! I don't wear suspenders!

I once had a particle accelerator in science class. Those heretics took my pea shooter and gave detention..

To be honest, using a Mac wouldn't be too bad. I can get pretty distracted on Microsoft compys because they've got all my games. Guess Macs are good for productivity, which supports most of their buyers I guess: graphical designers and such. I love you and love to hate you, Mac-ers. Happy New Year.

you know, I had a friend who purchased a new apple laptop. I handled it like this, I walked up and asked her hey is that an apple? to which she replied yes, and then I asked can you eat it? to which she replied no. my next question was why then did you waste your money on it? to which her reply was to give me the glare of death. it was rather funny.

So, farewell my friends. It's been good to know you. After the apocalypse, we should definitely have coffee or something.

We can meet here:

Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

I know you think you understand what you thought I said,
but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!
