Posted 29 December 2009 - 02:56 AM

I have been working on this for over a week and have narrowed down to this explanation of everything.

First, I was suddenly getting popups and all kinds of strange windows saying things like "this file cannot be processed because of something" Sorry, I can't remember the exact words. I also couldn't do anything on the internet because my browser was getting hijacked every time I tried. I tried to run spybot search and destroy and got lots of infections but not much relief. I read a lot of forums and tried a lot of things and had some success only to find myself back in bad shape after reboots. I finally found a file called sdra64.exe which kept writing itself to the registry. Each time I tried to delete it's referenc in the registry it would rewrite itself in 5 to 6 seconds. I finally got rid of it (I think) by setting up the registry with a change but not clicking the "NOW" button. Then I opened task manager and deleted one of the svchost.exe files which set up a 60 second timer to shutdown. At exactly 1 second left I clicked the "NOW" button as the system rebooted. This seems to have eliminated this particular file. Things seem stable but I continue to get these trojans that show up and my browser is getting hijacked every 4th or 5th time I click on a new window or new tab. At one point in all of this I looked at my hosts file and hosts.msn file located in windows/system32/drivers/etc folder and there were literally thousands of bogus urls in these files to all kinds of search sites and sex sites and it was unreal! I cleaned it all up and left just the one reference to 721.0.0.1 or something like that.

So now I run spybot or vexira antivirus or superantiespyware or malwarebuytes and some kind of trojan or rootkit keeps showing up and none of these seems to be getting rid of it. The latest one to show up is win32.Agent.pz and I am sure another is going to show up when I run another virus scan.

Also, throughout this ordeal, I have not been able to boot into safemode. I can F-8 and get the menu, but I am never able to get to safemode. It just reboots over and over. I have been able to boot up by using msconfig and eliminating all the startup files. Thus I could boot up in a diagnostic mode which enabled me to get as far as I have. I need some serious help here! Thanks!

So here are the logs as requestd:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE
regards,
schrauber
