for a few weeks my computer has been slow, and i have been using anti malware and antispyware, and avast as my virus protection, and nothing shows up, yet i keep getting pop ups from avast saying that i have a virus on my computer. anti spyware shows some cookies that i keep deleting, but they keep showing up. i have tried to change those settings around, but not sure if i have it right or not. (i use firefox and my mom uses IE) anyways, i just got a pop up saying i have a trojan on my computer, and today i keep having these little yellow pop ups at the bottom right of my screen saying that the internet or something has blocked access to __fill in the blank__ site from access my computer or something like that, but its a site that i wasnt going to, like it did it when i went to yahoo to check my email. anyways, can someone please help me?

also, everytime i do these scans, it always shows i have bearshare downloaded when i dont. i have never used bearshare, how do i get that to stop showing up when i dont use it?

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. You can find information on A/V control HERE

Orange Blossom :(
Help us help you. If HelpBot replies, you MUST follow step 1 in its reply so we know you need help.

i understand about taking a while. there are a lot of people needing help here. its fine :(

im not having the pop ups that say network blocking site anymore, but my computer is still a bit slow and i have had a time or two saying i have a trojan on the computer. i dont know if it will make a difference, but today or tomorrow i will be moving to a different internet provider. dont know if you needed to know or not, but just telling you incase.

anyways, i dont know if it will show up again, but like i said before, for some reason, bearshare always shows upon my computer, but i have never downloaded it or never use it. how do i get it removed from my computer?

Hi,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer. My name is m0le and I will be helping you with your log.
  • Please subscribe to this topic, if you haven't already. You can subscribe by clicking the Options box to the right of your topic title and selecting Track This Topic.

  • Please avoid installing/uninstalling or updating any programs and attempting any unsupervised fixes or scans. This can make helping you impossible.

  • Please reply to this post so I know you are there.
The forum is busy and we need to have replies as soon as possible. If I haven't had a reply after 3 days I will bump the topic and if you do not reply by the following day after that then I will close the topic.

----------------------------------------------

If you want me to help remove Bearshare then let me know.

Nothing showing in the logs at this stage so let's run MBAM and see if it finds anything

Please download Posted Image Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application or, if you are using Vista, right-click and select Run As Administrator on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

Then please run ESET online scanner

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image
Thanks :(

Not the most infected machine I've seen :(

You didn't mention whether you wanted me to remove Bearshare. There's also the Ask toolbar to be considered:

the Ask toolbar is not recommended. This toolbar enhances internet browsing and provides a direct link to the "ask.com" search engine. This program is not known to be bundled with spyware - The company strongly denies the toolbar as being malware.

Please read why it might be good to remove it here.

If you choose to remove it then follow the instructions below.

Click "start" on the taskbar and then click on the "Control Panel" icon.
Please doubleclick (or right-click, if you are using Vista) the "Add or Remove Programs" icon
A list of programs installed will be "populated" this may take a bit of time.
If they exist, uninstall the following by clicking on the following entries and selecting "remove":

AskBarDis

Additional instructions can be found here if needed.

What symptoms are still present after the scans?

I think Bearshare is our final removal then.

1/ Click Start

2/ From the menu click Run

3/ In the Run dialog box type: regedit

4/ The Windows registry Editor will now open

5/ Click the File option on the main toolbar and, from the drop down menu, select Export

6/ In the Export Registry File dialog box select All

7/ Now name the file

8/ Finally click the Save button

9/ To return the registry back to its original state should something go wrong simply click on the File option on the main registry editor toolbar and then select Import

We need to execute an OTM script
  • Please download OTM by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Paste the following code under the Posted Image area. Do not include the word "Code".
    :Files
    c:\program files\bearshare applications
    c:\program files\bearshare
    :Commands
    [EmptyTemp]
  • Push the large Posted Image button.
  • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  • Copy/Paste the contents under the Posted Image line here in your next reply.
  • If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
Post the OTM log.

Hi,

I have not had a reply from you for 5 days. Can you please tell me if you still need help with your computer as I am unable to help other members with their problems while I have your topic still open. The time taken between posts can also change the situation with your PC making it more difficult to help you.

If you like you can PM me.

Thanks,

m0le
