When the computer is turned on and reaches the desktop, the wallpaper has been turned to black and all program icons disappear. A fake antivirus comes up called Security Tool telling us we've been infected by x amount of viruses and is very serious blah blah blah. Windows Defender realtime scan detects this as Trojan:Win32/Winwebsec. Removing through Windows Defender did nothing - restarting the computer gave the same problem. A full system scan through AVG Free, and ironically Windows Defender, showed no infections, despite Windows Defender realtime scan did...

The virus also blocks you from opening programs such as notepad and Microsoft Word, saying they're infected with some rubbish.

When the virus first appeared, I managed to download and run Hijackthis but the forum I tried uploading to didn't work. When I came back to computer, running hijackthis again didn't work - it was blocked by the virus. So I did another report through SafeMode.

Below is the Safe Mode result

Hi,

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • In case you already used MBAM previously, please update it before proceeding with the scan. To do this, click the "Update" tab and click the "Check For updates" button.
  • Once the program has loaded and updates were downloaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

In case you can't run Malwarebytes, or even install it, rename the file to explorer.exe or winlogon.exe or svchost.exe
This also applies for the mbam.exe present in the C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Antimalware folder. You probably need to rename that one as well...

Or, just install and launch from Windows safe mode.
