Hi,

I have had the comp shut down now 4 times, getting different error messages on a blue screen each time. Here are the messages I'm getting that I've written down so far:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

TraceAPI.DLL was not found

ZCfg.Svc.exe-corrupt file-Run chkdsk

Can someone here help me and give me the dummy's version of what to do next? Also---I've never backed up any files and would love instructions on how to do that before this old thing completely collapses into a pile of electronic jelly before my eyes!

Thanks to all and Merry Christmas!

Blue Sreen Errors are telling you that things are wrong (failing). With the very small amount of information that you provided it would be very hard to make an exact diagnosis as to what may be causing these errors.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Usually a driver problem but not always.

TraceAPI.DLL was not found
ZCfg.Svc.exe-corrupt file-Run chkdsk

May be able to resolve by running chkdsk or sfc /scannow.

Backing up files is usually not difficult but may be time consuming...You may be able to Back up your whole system in one stroke if you have XP Pro as it has a tool for doing this...XP Home doesn't have that option. You can use third party utilities for doing this task. Do a Google Search for back-up utilities pick one that is free or at the very least inexpensive and use it to back-up your system.

If you can give more information about the Blue Screen Messages post it back here for someone to help tell you what more to look for.
