If my laptop is infected and the browsers (IE8 and Mozilla FF) keeping crashing as soon as I try and boot them, what will be my strategy to install and run Combofix (once it becomes available again)?

Can I download it on another computer, copy it to a disk or thumbdrive and then install it that way?

By the way, my HiJackThis seems to worked fine, but the MBAM not only wouldn't work, but I couldn't reinstall it keeps missing the .exe file, even when it looked like I was installing it successfully.

So what do you recommend in a case like this?

Thanks! (I'm over at cexx.org forum with the same issues. The original infection is a rogue "InternetSecurity2010.")

Hi pconrad, I moved your post to a more appropriate forum.

If you are getting help at cexx.org, I would recommend you stick with the steps your are getting there. Getting help at two forums a time will cause only confusion.

regards, Elise

That's a good point. If anyone is interested in following this outcome, you can see it over there, but I'll return here to post the eventual end-of-story (if there is one!).
