I have a laptop running windows 7. I want to connect to a network printer attached to a computer running XP, but Windows 7 cannot find the printer. Even when I enter the printer address, it still refuses to connect. I tried disabling the firewalls on both computers but had no luck. Both computers are also on the same workgroup.

It might be unrelated, but I am also unable to view any of the computers that are in the same workgroup as I am.

Sounds to me as if your network is not set up properly...if you cannot see the other members of the workgroup.

As for a printer or any other shared resource....the network must be set up properly first...then the resource must be properly shared.

When I have problems, I just set the network up anew and double-check the protocols...that solves all of my self-imposed networking situations.

Have you looked at any Win 7 HELP menus on these subjects?

Actually, I was in error.

It seems that Win 7 has a different networking apparatus..take a look at the following comments by Xpcman, http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-196544-...p-pc-in-network.

I booted into my Win 7 long enough to see that the Win 7 home network and XP home network...are not compatible. I will try the workgroup option in Win 7, which ought to allow me to network with my XP system.
