To whomever can help me,

I have an unusual virus/spyware/malware running on my computer and I've never seen anything like it. At random intervals, most often when no one is using the computer, audio will start playing (with a break of a few seconds every 30 seconds or so). One time, it's a braodcast of Comedy Central's Daily Show/Colbert Report other times its a a news broadcast or some other show I can't identify. I've noticed that whenever the "ghost audio" is playing, I pull up the Windows Task Manager to see if some foreign task in causing this, but it shows multiple instances of "explorer.exe" running, one of which is always using upwards of 160,000 K of memory, which leads me to believe that the software is running through it. Also, when I've had to ungracefully reboot my machine the next time I start IE8 it says that tabs have been recovered. If I choose to open the recovered tabs (instead of going to the home page) it opens dozens of instances of IE. In panic I usually try to close them before whatever page their trying to load loads ; however, once I did see that www.comcedycentral.com was one of the pages loading--I never go to comedycentral.com. I've ran Eset Nod32 Antivirus and Ad-Aware SE, but none of these programs have located it or deleted it. I've also reinstalled IE8 but the problem still persists. Below is my DDS log-file. I hope someone can help me.

Thank you in advance for your help.

PS The RootRepeat program crashes on my system. "FOPS - DeviceIoControl Error! Error Code - 0xc0000001 Extended Info(0x000000b4)". Then "Cannot initialize the driver! Please contact the author" and "Error Dumping SSDT (0xc0000001)!" . The crash report that it deposist on my desktop reads -
ROOTREPEAL CRASH REPORT
-------------------------
Windows Version: Windows XP SP3
Exception Code: 0xc0000005
Exception Address: 0x7c928c0b
Attempt to read from address: 0x00000a80

(PPS Someone at http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Ghost-Audio...xe-t134583.html had the same problem but I'm registered on this forum so I thought I'd give it a try here.)

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE
If I have not replied back to your post in 3 days, please send me a PM.
