I am helping my friend clean his computer and have manually removed the 'internet security 2010' malware, but think that it might not be connected to the current issue;

Periodically Firefox opens a new tab to hxxp://www.local-news-online.com/?t202id=12893&t202kw= but I do not know how long he has had this going on, I uninstalled a program(after searching around for what could be causing this, I looked for security 2010 in ad/remove programs before trying an extensive re search) along the lines of FFinternetsecurityadvice, or something similar that I know he didn't install/know about. I set Firefox to notify me of every cookie(his computer is set to delete third party cookies and all history upon browser close) I haven't since seen the original advert but have started getting re-directions(ahh, much worse a problem to deal with) that seem to be to any number of places. Almost seems like it got pissed when I started denying cookies, but am leaning toward this being in my head.

redirects to thewebsitesurvey.com, hxxp://www.alphacommand.us/t-mobile/ so far encountered for sure.
if it helps, he refuses to use internet explorer, and I doubt he'd appreciate an opera install just to test if this is cross browser, but I have come along some sort of debate-like ask for help on aboot this same problem: hxxps://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/523648?forumId=1&comments_threshold=0&comments_parentId=523648&comments_offset=0&comments_per_page=20&thread_style=commentStyle_plain

I've made a post on page three just before the redirects occurred. Apparently the redirects seem to happen more-so with links from google(which would explain the vicious period mentioned before from when I was checking cookies)

Thanks in advanced for going through the trouble of helping me along with this.

Thought I'd make a note that I realize that no one on that other site I mentioned has much of a clue as to what they are doing, and though I made a post, am not following any of their advice unless it gets specifically resolved(at which point I will request a close to this topic) by someone who has 100% confirmed it, and will not advise any of them with anything specific to my computer diagnosis.
