Hi all. A few days ago I was infected by the Antivirus Live scareware program. Having run Malwarebytes, this seemed to remove the majority of the issues eg. browser redirecting. However, if I run a MBAM scan, there are still several instances of Backdoor.Bot and 1 of Malware.Trace in my registry. Upon quarantine and delete through MBAM they appear again within around 30mins. I found this forum while Googling my issue and figured that I should give you guys a go since I'd rather clean the infection than format my PC :(

Below is my DDS Report, and attached are a DDS log and RootRepeal log

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Hello. Don't worry about the delay, I'm sure you guys are kept very busy. Problem is still there as I decided to see if my system could be cleaned by you guys as I'd rather clean it than format. Here are the new DDS logs:

Hi there,

Sorry about the delay. You appear to have a rather new infection that still undetected by the majority of anti-Malware tools. Please download this tool to your Desktop, then run it:
http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/Kenco.exe
It will only take a few moments, please post the log it produces.

Thanks.

Perfect, thanks.

Please download OTM by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please click OTM and then click >> run.
  • Copy the lines inside the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
:Processes
explorer.exe

:files
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\zxaifq.job
c:\windows\system32\miglibnt5.dll

:services
efipsk

:Commands
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]
  • Return to OTM, right click in the "Paste Instructions for items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTM
Note: If an item cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Let me know if you are still being redirected after that reboots, and post another DDS log.

Not getting any browser redirects, but malwarebytes is still showing a couple of registry infections. Even after I clear those, they return usually within an hour at most :/

Well, at least we are making progress. I missed one thing out of your DDS log, so please run OTM again, this time with this script:
:reg
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"userinit"="c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,"

:files
c:\windows\system32\msgekk32.exe

:commands
[reboot]

If you are still getting infections in your MBAM logs, please post a log so I can where the problem is.

Thanks.

Only 3 infections when usually there's 5 so must be making some progress :(. OTM didn't create a log after reboot this time though if you're needing to see that too

Post a new DDS log, then we can see if OTM worked. Try running MBAM again later on and see if those items come back again, let me know if they do. With any luck, that last OTM run got the respawner.

How's it running?

Will run another MBAM scan in about an hour to check if the entries are back at all. As far as I can tell, the computer's running fine

Hello again. Just done another MBAM scan. Only 1 infection now when usually they'd all be back in this time frame so think progress is being made :(. Here's the log:

OK, the OTM didn't quite work, so we can try another method.

We need to run a batch file.
  • Copy the contents of the Code Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as fix.bat
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on your Desktop
@echo off
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v "userinit" /d "c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,"
del /Q "c:\windows\system32\msgekk32.exe"
del /Q %0
Then double-click on the fix.bat file. It will only take a second to run, and should delete itself once complete.

I notice you don't seem to have any AntiVirus program installed. It is pretty important to have an AntiVirus running to protect your system, they will often catch a lot general Malware before it digs itself into your system. This may well help us find the respawning part of the infection here as well, so I highly recommend it. There are 3 free AntiVirus programs that I generally recommend: Avast, AVG and Avira. Download and install one of them, then have it scan your system.

I ran the batch file and downloaded AVG Free, which found and removed a couple of trojans. On reboot, AVG seems to come up clean, but MBAM is still picking something up in the registry:

Hmm, let's find out what it is finding and removing. Click Start >> Run and then copy/paste the following command into the box, then hit Enter:
regedit /e "%userprofile%\Desktop\export.txt" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\Network"

This will create a file on your Desktop entitled "export.txt", please post the contents of this file in your next post.
