Fairly new Gateway Laptop running Windows XP Pro. Problem originated from some type of Flash media in Facebook.
Hangs at end of extracting Safe Mode files.
When booted into Windows normally, it hangs within 3 minutes before you can run System Restore. Was able to run safe mode with command prompt once and was able to type the command for system restore before in hung but it never actually ran the restore.
When booted into Debugging mode, it hangs almost instantly.
Booted from Windows Xp Pro CD and it found no drives installed in system.

Installed problem drive as external usb drive on desktop to run the following:
Malware Bytes, Avira antivirus, and Panda antivirus. Malware was the only program to find anything. One TR/?? Trojan. Other programs found nothing.

Tried running Seatools and it would not test drive at all.
Also have Microsoft Validation tool appearing at every startup, and it doesn't seem to be the legit program. It hangs at 3/4 completion.

Any ideas before formatting.

Just curious, does your laptop run really hot when idle, on the bottom?
