antivirus live

Hi i am hoping someone can shed some light on my problem. I have had this antivrus live malware and followed all steps on here to remove. Problem being now is that when i switch on, my hard drive runs all the time. BUT if i unplug my ethernet cable (internet) and then start up its fine, no problems at all.

Im running xp with avg av

Well it's possible that the infection was not completely removed. I usually try running Malwarebytes first. You can get it HERE . Install, update and run it. If you have problems installing it then try renaming the file before saving it to your desktop. I like renaming it to bigmama.

Remove what MBAM finds and then install and run ATF Cleaner (for Windows XP and 2000 only!). Check the box for select all and then click the button Empty Selected. This will help clear out temp files, cookies and other junk that clutters up Windows.

Next install, update and run SUPERAntiSpyware. Get rid of what it finds. Finally update and run your antivirus program and get rid of anything that it finds.

Thanks azfreetech, i will try all you said. I use Ccleaner but will try ATF Cleaner and other instructions also. I just find it strange that its fine if i boot with out ethernet cable. Will see what happens and post results tommorrow. Thanks again.
