Hey guys,

I wanted to ask some potentially dumb questions under the guise of making myself smarter.

I have looked on Ebay at some laptops, and have seen several that have no hard drive (or caddy) and obviously, no installed system, but, a major advertising line of them is that they do have the COA.

Am I correct in assuming that if I had a copy of that version of Windows that's on the COA, I could buy the laptop, install a hard drive and a caddy, and then, install from that CD?

How hard is installing a hard drive and caddy?

Are they expensive?

How legal is this?

To be legal, would I need to purchase the Windows restore discs for that particular laptop?

Thanks.

Jeremy

You answered your own question on "Legal" Keep it straight it pays in the long run! There is a very good chance you can get the restore disc's from the LT vendor, usually quite reasonable.

Ah. Thanks. I may just try to pick one up on Ebay. How hard is it to install a hard drive and caddy into a laptop that has neither?

Well, I actually found some pretty sweet deals on complete, existing systems tonight. I don't know how much hard drives, caddies, and operating restore discs cost, but, when the time comes, I may look into buying one of those systems.

Thank you, sir.
