The links from my google searches usually get redirected to webpages (mostly for things like Antivirus/spyware fixes, some for things like travel agencies, I think.) Sometimes 4 or more new tabs will open up with assorted nonsense in the URL bar. If I click a google search link, and get redirected, I'll go back and click the link again and repeat until I'm actually taken where I wanted to go.
OS: WinXP, SP3
Primary browser: Chrome (but this has replicated in other browsers)
I was using AVG 8.x as my anti-virus, and it performed regular scans, but didn't find anything. When this problem began occurring, I upgraded to AVG 9 and it didn't improve. I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy as well as AdAware. Spybot said it found and removed a trojan, but the problem was still occurring. Also, my Java Runtime was a bit out of date and I have recently updated to 6.17.
I know I'm having a similar problem to many posts I've seen, but the forum instructions also recommended not just following instructions that were given to other people with similar problems. Thanks in advance for your help.
