My computer is infected and i have given up trying to clean it. I would like to get my picture and MS Office files (.doc, .xls) onto a new computer. Can they carry the virus? I have an external hard-drive for backup - can i erase everthing but the picture and data files and use it to load the new computer?

Your help will be much appreciated.
