I have a problem with my printer. It's an hp psc 1315 and I've had it for over 5 years. Every time I turn the printer on, it says the file "hpqgends.tmp" is missing and it needs the CD. I don't have the CD anymore. My printer isn't functioning as effectively as it used to. How can I solve this problem?

Go HERE. Enter the proper product info and download the necessary software.

I made the link clickable.

It's your choice which one to download and install.
If you want the drivers only, use HP Officejet and PSC Basic Driver.

If you currently have the Photosmart Suite installed use HP Officejet and PSC Full Feature Software and Drivers.

*edited to add*

A quick search turned up the following information:

" hpqgends.tmp is missing" or Error 1706 could occur when trying to access the HP Photo and Imaging software.
from http://hpanswers.blogspot.com/2008/03/hpqg...r-1706-for.html

These errors only occur after the temporary files have been deleted from the computer. The software CD needs to be inserted when requested to allow the application to reinstall the missing file. The software will then work correctly.
from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...ocname=nps05679

This suggests you need to re-install using the Full Feature version.

Go to www.hp.com

Click on Support and Drivers.

Put the dot next to "download drivers and software".

Type your model number in the white search box as pictured here.

ThunderZ, there was nothing wrong with your link. The link I made clickable is the one Koetsu posted-which is the driver download page.

I had downloaded the "basic drivers" file before but it still requested the temp file. I'll try the full software download.

Before you install the new drivers, you might want to uninstall any HP printer associated programs.
You may see these things or something similar:

HP Imaging Device Functions
HP PhotoSmart Essential
HP PSC and Office Jet (which may have letters and numbers next to it)
HP Solution Center and Imgaining Support.

You can also go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management.
In Computer Management, click Device Manager on the left side of the page.
Look under Imaging Devices, where your printer will be listed.
RIGHT click on the device name, choose Properties.
In the driver tab choose Uninstall which will uninstall the current drivers.

This will give a clean slate to start over with.

Actually, I think it removed all the old components automatically. It basically reinstalled it and everything works fine now.
