Buckeye Sam fixed my wife's infected computer, now I think I have an infection on mine. I'm including the contents of two files below that Sam asked for when he first started looking at my wife's PC, just in case these files are a standard starting point for checking a PC for malware or a virus.

The files are: a hijackthis.log file and a startuplist.txt file.

Here's as much as I know. My PC runs extremely slowly. It has occasionally been sluggish in the past but now it takes what seems like 10 minutes just to boot. I use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security with antivirus, firewall, and program security all active. It didn't catch anything. Since performance dropped badly I have also activated ZA's browser security. All ZA updates have been installed. I have a router with a hardware firewall and I use a wired home network.

Sam had me install Spybot S&D and Spywareblaster, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on my wife's machine to prevent future problems. If only I had done the same on my own machine.

After my slowdown I ran ZA and also these three tools. Spybot found and fixed several bugs - a few of them in the registry. Neither of the other tools found anything. I planned to run MS malicious software removal tool, but haven't yet. I thought I'd enlist the aid of an expert before I waste more time.

Here are the files:
