My friend just gave me his old printer and it's in good condition. It's a HP PSC 1350. They lost the installation disc, and when I went on the HP website to download the software/driver, while it was installing, it stopped and I got this message "A more recent version of software for this product is already installed on your computer. Simply connect the device to your computer and the software will automatically recognize the hardware." I;m really confused. I completely uninstalled the last printer I had, and now I can't install this one! Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Someone please help me. I have a paper due tomorrow.

It might work as simple as it says. Turn you computer off and install your printer and turn it on start your computer. If H.P. is correct it will find your printer and it will work. Go to the H.P. printer program and see if there is a update. NOTE! I have updated H.P. printer programs and it works like do do. No problem, do it again and don't update it..

Lets try this. Go to start/programs/H.P. and see if there is a installation program.

There is no Installation program.

It shows these 3 options:

Photosmart Camera
Stop Hp Product survey program participation
HP Print Diagnostic Utility

Nevermind!

I'm doing it right now.

When I click Device Manager, I get "windows cannot find mmc.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

I have run out of Ideas. Don't give up there will be other people here that will help you. Have you tried add/remove off of the control panel. Start/settings/control panel/add remove hardware. I don't know it this will work without a loading disc. I have also done this. With the computer on plug in the printer and your system will pick it up if the drivers are there and H.P. said they are.

A more recent version of software for this product is already installed on your computer."

Didn't it offer you the option to continue anyway and overwrite it?

I completely uninstalled the last printer I had,

Was your last printer also a HP
Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
If there is anything referring to the printer, check it and remove it
See if that helps

Here is just another thought. Remove every thing H.P. and start from scratch. H.P. printers/scanners are given to friends ectl with out c/ds
Have you tried removing every thing to do with H.P. If I remember correctly xp comes with basic H.P. drivers. It's been so long I don't remember if you are trying this remote or hard wired.
