I have a custom built laptop that has had no problems until i installed XP SP3 and then Internet Expplorer 8. The computer just turns off, doesnt shut down, just pops and goes off after its been sitting idel for a while. The length of time is variable. the comuter is nevber truly idle, there are always backlground proccesses ongoing. My laptop has never crashed while in use.

i have McAfee Internet suite, CCleaner, and Malwarebytes. No scan can complete since it crashes while idle. Eventually the problem stops. As soon as there is a new update from Microsoft Update installed, it starts all over again.

i cannot tell if its an infection or a hardware problem. I'm out of idea as to what to do. I'm posting a Hijackthis log in the hopes that someone might be able to help. This laptop is my primary computer for my business, and its become very difficult to complete any task.

Please help.

I'm strting to wonder if the problem is related to CUDA proccessing. I use BOINC and it does run projects using CUDA once the computer is idle. Is it possible that the crash happens everytime the CUDA application starts? Has anyone had a similar issue. I have an Nvidia 8600M GT card and have all the latest drivers.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
