Hey all,

Wondered if you could help. My XP laptop is not recognising the CD/DVD drive. When I put a CD/DVD in nothing happens. The drive has dissapeared from My Computer. In Device Manager there is no CD/DVD drive section.

I recently cleaned this laptop up from (I think) a Trojan and other malware/adware with help from this forum.

I don't know how to update/reinstall the drivers if it's not in Device Manager.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
xx

Optical drive drivers...seldom need to be reinstalled, IME. They are just the generic drivers XP uses for all optical drives.

Does the drive appear in the BIOS?

Hey Louis,

I pressed F8 when it was starting up to 'Display Boot Order' and it lists:

()Floppy
()HardDisk
()CD-ROM
()PXE

When I pressd ENTER on 'CD-ROM' is goes to a black screen for 2 secs then returns to this list.

Please enter the BIOS...and see if the optical drive is displayed on the main page, along with the hard drive, time/date, etc.

Did you try changing the BIOS status to enabled?

I've never seen a "disabled" status in any of my BIOSes, but I haven't had any PB systems.
