Hi, maybe this is in the wrong section... I'm new.

I bought a Dell netbook from Walmart about a week ago that I now want to return (I have the receipt). I want to make sure my personal data does not stay on the computer. Although I have not done any banking or made any credit card purchases, I did access email accounts, Facebook, and other sites with a password.

Besides deleting all of my files and using F11 to Reset to Factory Defaults, what else should I do? Someone I know in person suggested Daric's Boot and Nuke http://www.dban.org/. I dont know much about this stuff. Thanks in advance

EDIT: moved to a more appropriate forum - I'll assume Vista

If you use Dban it will wipe the os off the hdd then walmart won't take it back. restore to factory should be fine.

"Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot disk that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction"

straight from Dbans website

hope this helps.

Please take the time, to browse the New User Orientation forum, to help familiarize yourself with how the board works.
