Hi Tom,

this one looks a bit strange, I see lotsa' errors in the extras.txt, wonder what i did to it? I have Intel's stormanager service stopped as a dell tech told me to do a NOT uninstallable software update based upon his misreading our system and it nearly stalled the server, HD transfer-wise.

anyway, here is an OTL log and extras AFTER:

uninstall MBAM, Spybot S&D, Comodo and finally the two-part uninstall of avast.

Thanx so much for your time - I don't know if malware/virus or just broken :(

Hi again :(

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode.
regards,
schrauber

Hi,

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Also please post back with a fresh OTL logfile, don't attach it, just post it in the thread :(.
regards,
schrauber

Please post a link that will -really- remove MBAM's programs and registry entries, I cannot remember all of the steps it took the last several times to get rid of it.

Thanx!

Hi :(

How is your system running? Please do the following:

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image
A log file will be saved here: C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Online Scanner\log.txt

Please post a link that will -really- remove MBAM's programs and registry entries, I cannot remember all of the steps it took the last several times to get rid of it.

one eset log:

D:\MOVIES\DOWNLOAD\alt.binaries.multimedia.utilities\7203b_reg_KG.rar probably a variant of Win32/Agent trojan deleted - quarantined

regarding MBAM, my impression from reading Way too many of the logs here, so I could trust instruction and advice from you kind people - do not have duplicate protective services. I chose Bitdefender-gamesafe because it did what I wanted in one place, and seems respected here, as it was used (like eset) as a final check (BSOD). Since I paid for MBAM and it severely conflicted with Comodo, I will be using it -and- Comodo on the final (x32) server in our house, comparing its results and warnings with Bitdefender as the final test of its worthiness. Until Avast tried to tell me I needed to quarantine most of my start-up, I had never had a problem with it (over 3 years), other that it was a CPU pig, pro version or free. Bitdefender has lived up to its promise of not being a pig :(

Hope I have explained my rather long experience with all the BleepCom recommended applications - When I removed everything, favoring Bitdefender, MBAM was particularly difficult to completely clean out, i.e., MBAM.EXE remained in start-up after "uninstall" as well as Many registry entries. Given its mission of tracking things that crap all over your computer, I was unimpressed that it left the same level of poop-stain after uninstall as our poster-child for that sort of thing: Symantec-I am a virus, don't even THINK you can uninstall me.

Fairly or unfairly, if a -protection- program leaves traces in registry, let alone an active start-up executable AFTER uninstall, I'm very concerned about their overall attention to detail -- that is why so very many people ran screaming from ANYthing that symantec sold, correct?

Hm, I have never heard from any problems with it, but I think there is an uninstaller available for Mbam. I will have a look after we are finished here :(.

sorry, I was editing as you replied - I forgot your question about how i was running, edit test below:

quote:
regarding computer probs -- about the same, as we haven't changed anything. I had a Real positive result when I removed the conglomeration of protections to move to Bitdefender - I was able to reboot! That has since returned to the previous situation: I reboot several times to get back into windows. Everything is fine when I finally get in (for weeks), but WinUpdate forced reboots are a real PITA. As I originally said, I dunno if it is mal-ware or just Broken (all the log errors).
end quote.

sorry?

I ran eset, if that is what you mean - it heuristically found the 7203-whatever thing in usenet downloads (I was trying to find ANY way to convince Nero to work again years ago, no luck, I have since switched to CD Burner XP Pro 3 (name corrected).
(have been up 46 hours shoveling and helping snowbound, etc. Be back much later - thanx again!)

Please doubleclick OTL and hit Cleanup. This will remove OTL and all helper tools.

Let me know if there is anything left on your system :(.
