You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." with a cancel and followed by Ok button.

Hello Geetha and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Important
Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. If it is run from inside a compressed file then the backups are not created at all.
  • Please open My Computer
  • Double-click on Local Disk (C:)
  • Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.
  • Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder (do not run HijackThis directly out of the sfx or compressed file).
Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.

Download Miekiemoes' lqfix.zip and unzip the contents to your desktop. Do not run it yet.

Step #2

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #3

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Numsdq] C:\Program Files\Wpmqz\Hepdeal.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SystemCheck] C:\WINNT\SysCheckBop32
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINNT\system32\arloao.exe reg_run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service62] C:\WINNT\etb\pokapoka63.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service63] C:\WINNT\etb\pokapoka63.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Hwp9RhH4Q] ctsign32.exe

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #4

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\Program Files\Wpmqz\ <--folder
C:\WINNT\SysCheckBop32
C:\WINNT\etb\ <--folder
C:\WINNT\system32\arloao.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\ctsign32.exe

Step #5

Locate the LQFix.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it. A DOS window will open and when it is finished a 'Done!' message will appear. Close the DOS window when it is finished.

Start CCleaner and click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner. When it is finished close CCleaner.

Step #6

Reboot normally and run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Bitdefender <<<Add a check by 'Autoclean'.
RAV <<<Add a check by 'Autoclean', leave everything else as is.
eTrust <<<'Cure' whatever is found, then delete if unsuccessful
Housecall <<<Put on 'Autoclean' and delete what it can't clean.
Panda ActiveScan <<<Accept default settings
If there are any files that cannot be automatically disinfected or quarantined then you will need to delete them manually.

Step #7

If you do not already have Ad-Aware SE 1.06 then follow these download and setup instructions: Ad-Aware SE Setup. Otherwise, just check for updates.

Start Ad-aware SE, click the Start button and choose Perform Full System Scan. Click the Next button and wait for the scan to complete. If anything was found, right-click on the list and choose Select All and remove all it finds.

Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Dear OT,

Thanks a ton for your response. I did just exactly per your instructions and had no problem in following and executing. Here is the log file after completing 8 steps that you mentioned in your reply.
Please let me know if every thing is fine after reviewing the HJT log file.
Once again thank you very much and appreciate your time.
Best Regards.
Geetha.

Hi Geetha. That looks better but we still have something in there that isn't showing up completely. Let's run a different scanner and see what it shows us.

Download WinPFind.zip and unzip the contents to the C:\ folder.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the c:\winpfind\winpfind.exe file and double-click it to run it. Now click the Start Scan button to begin the scan.

When the scan is complete reboot normally and post the WinPFind.txt file (located in the WinPFind folder) back here along with a new HijackThis log and I will review the information when it comes in.

Hi Geetha. Ok, let's see if we can clean this up. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

WinPFind Short Fix

Download the Pocket Killbox and unzip the contents of KillBox.zip to your desktop.
  • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\gnkqtqgy]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{a9cb019c-4198-47f6-986c-cb0ab30f6a20}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{a9cb019c-4198-47f6-986c-cb0ab30f6a20}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars\{4528BBE0-4E08-11D5-AD55-00010333D0AD}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars\{4528BBE0-4E08-11D5-AD55-00010333D0AD}]

  • Save the document to your desktop as fixreg.reg and close Notepad.
  • Locate the fixreg.reg file on your desktop and right-click on it
  • Choose Merge from the popup menu and answer Yes or Ok to any further prompts. You should get a message that the file was merged successfully.
  • Double-click on KillBox.exe to launch the program.
  • Highlight the files in bold below and press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time to copy them to the clipboard
    • C:\WINNT\system32\dnkbo.dll
      C:\WINNT\system32\arloao.exe
      C:\WINNT\ctsign32.exe
      C:\WINNT\system32\ctsign32.exe
  • In Killbox click on the File menu and then the Paste from Clipboard item
  • In the Full Path of File to Delete field drop down the arrow and make sure that all of the files are listed
  • Click the option to Delete on Reboot
  • If not greyed out click the checkbox for Unregister .dll Before Deleting
  • Now click on the red button with a white 'X' in the middle to delete the files
  • Click Yes when it says all files will be deleted on the next reboot
  • Click Yes when it asks if you want to reboot now
  • If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just reboot manually
  • After the system reboots, start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINNT\system32\arloao.exe reg_run
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Hwp9RhH4Q] ctsign32.exe
  • Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.
  • Reboot and post a new HijackThis log along with a new WinPFind log
I will review the new information when it comes in.

Hi OT,
Per your instructions in your last reply, I was not able to paste all the files from the clipboard. Only one file "C:\WINNT\system32\dnkbo.dll" was getting pasted to the kilbox in the Full Path of File to Delete field. The rest of the following files were not getting pasted from the clipboard:
C:\WINNT\system32\arloao.exe
C:\WINNT\ctsign32.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\ctsign32.exe
Please advice.
Thanks
Geetha

Hi Geetha. Killbox does a pre-check for the actual existance of the files before setting them up for deletion on reboot. If the file is not there then it removes it from the list. That is Ok. Go ahead and paste the list in and then let Killbox sort them out. If it removes some then that means that they do not exist already.

Cheers.

Hi Geetha. That looks better but there is still a Qoologic file there. Let's use ewido to remove it.

Download and install the trial version of the ewido security suite. Update the program and then close it. Do not run it yet.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Start ewido and do the following:
  • Click on the Scanner button.
  • Click on the Complete System Scan.
  • If anything is found you will be prompted to clean the first infected file found. Choose Clean and put a checkmark in the checkbox for Perform action on all infections and click the Ok button to continue the scan.
  • When the scan is complete close ewido and reboot the computer normally.
Post back a new HijackThis log and the ewido scan log and I'll have a look at them when they come in.

Cheers.

OT

Hi Geetha. Ok, let's remove those last 2 items.

Double-click on KillBox.exe to launch the program.
  • Highlight the files in bold below and press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time to copy them to the clipboard
    • C:\WINNT\system32\kgdd4d.exe
      C:\WINNT\system32\ctsign32.exe
      C:\WINNT\ctsign32.exe
  • In Killbox click on the File menu and then the Paste from Clipboard item
  • In the Full Path of File to Delete field drop down the arrow and make sure that all of the files are listed (only 1 of the ctsign32.exe files will be valid)
  • Click the option to Replace on Reboot
  • Click the checkbox for Use Dummy
  • Now click on the red button with a white 'X' in the middle to delete the files
  • Click Yes when it says all files will be deleted on the next reboot
  • Click Yes when it asks if you want to reboot now
  • If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just reboot manually
Your system will reboot now.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINNT\system32\kgdd4d.exe reg_run
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Hwp9RhH4Q] ctsign32.exe

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi Geetha. There we go. That log is clean. Good job! How are things running? Any problems?

I highly recommend that an anti-virus applicaiton is installed on this machine. Without one, the computer is wide open to every infection and trojan lurking out ont he net and in emails today. See the information below for information on free verisons for personal use.

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
  • CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should definitely have a good antivirus to stop infections before they can start and spread. Here are 3 free anti-virus programs that are available for personal use (I use each of these on various machines and they are all good):You should also have a good firewall for blocking unwanted access to and from your computer. These also are free for personal use:It is best to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit Microsoft Windows Update monthly. Microsoft puts out new updates on the 2nd Tuesday of every month so be sure to check regularly.

And to keep your system clean be aware of what emails you open, what websites you visit, and update and run these free malware scanners once a week:To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!
