We let out Norton subscription elapse & now have the hijackdesktop virus. I followed different site info & looked at registry keys but didn't see any they listed to remove. Can you let me know which of these need to be fixed by hijackthis? Thanks!

Ok, this was my error lol!

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it has just prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things!!!
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy
Start HijackThis Fix
Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

O2 - BHO: Loader Class - {2E246FAE-8420-11D9-870D-000C2917DE7F} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Loader.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: BHOmodObj Class - {7F6828CA-9E42-462C-BC60-418C8144012C} - c:\windows\system\BHOmod.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intell32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\intell32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSGuard] C:\Program Files\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

The Files and all will have been removed, we just gotta make sure then entries werent put there by something else. After you fix these objects - post another log. Pllllllllease

Hi lvanlith,

I've split your daughter's log off to it's own thread. We would rather do one log thread per machine to avoid confusion.

The new thread is here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...topic=28157&hl=

I suggest you click the Track This Topic Link for that thread so you will be notified when you receive a reply.

Skate_Punk_21 will be back with you shortly.

The thing about people

is they change

when they walk away.--Mipso

reg fix
please copy the following into notepad and save it as "tbfix.reg" on your desktop, and save it as file type "all types"
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\BHOmod.BHOmodObj]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7F6828CA-9E42-462C-BC60-418C8144012C}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{9769272F-6F27-441E-B5A7-D784C10CACE6}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{09CA52B3-703C-4B17-9690-C13F736E3DCD}]
Now double click this file, and allow it to merge with your registry.

Congratulations Your Log is Clean!!

If you are still having trouble, please dont continue with these instructions just yet. LET ME KNOW!

Otherwise, we have a few clean up items to deal with.

1. System Restore
Now that we know your system is clean, we want to purge any potentially infected restore points. To do that, complete the following:

Turn off System Restore by Clicking Start > right-click My Computer and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab > Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this. Click OK.

To re-enable this function - simply uncheck this same box, and click "apply" and "ok"

2. Reset Hidden Files & Folders

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is UNchecked. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are invisible. CHECK the Hide protected operating system files option.

Preventative Measures

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read How Did I Get Infected In The First Place?.

Also Consider...
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:How is she running now? Any further problems? If not, Good work, and Happy Computing!

Please reply once more so we know you have read these measures.

Thanks a lot- it's been working great! I did those things. With bellsouth DSL, can I use one of those firewalls? I assumed bellsouth had one in place.

Hi Ivanlith,
Im not sure of then protection offered by you ISP, did you sign up for the firewall protection? They offer a firewall but it's optional. IF you find that you dont have one i reccomend getting one of the freeware firewalls I posted above. Im glad things are working better now.
Happy Computing and goodluck staying clean smile.gif
