Hi - my husband's computer was infected yesterday with Antivirus Pro. I followed the instructions from this site on the removal and I thought all went well and it was gone. This morning my husband was on his computer and out of no where all the pop-ups started again and then did an automatic reboot which only made his screen go black.

I've tried to fix it but malware bytes won't run at all and I've tried downloading Superantivirus but it won't install and gives an error message. Also keep getting a popup error message that Google Installer won't run. I have no idea what Google installer is?????

So here's the dds file: Thanks in advance for your assistance! :(

Hi, lainey58 :(

Welcome.

Posted Image
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan..

    Posted Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

I couldn't get GMER to work... don't know why... But I already had installed RootRepeal so I ran the scan on that. Hope I did it right - Here's the report:

Hi, lainey58 :(

Open RootRepeal, click the Files tab and select Scan. Right click and select Wipe File on:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\H8SRTtqoyotfvaq.sys

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**
  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
  • During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    Posted Image

    Posted Image

  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" .
**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
Note: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security.

Please do not install any new programs or update anything unless told to do so while we are fixing your problem.

It shouldn't take that long. You can stop the application.

Run GMER, but do not scan. After the initial quick scan, select the rootkit tab and save the log. Post its contents on your next reply.

Well... it seems that nothing works on his computer anymore... I can't run any of these programs. I've even tried in SAFE mode and it still doesn't work.
Luckily I have MY laptop!! :(

Soooo..... now what?? I'm totally at a loss.

There are a lot of files - doc's and jpg's and cr2 files that he hasn't backed up. If we try to transfer them to an external drive, will the virus be attached to these files??

I've already done that  - I dl on to flash from my laptop and copy to the computer - then double click on the exe file and it blinks and does nothing. Nothing opens to be able to click on the rootkit tab ????? Even after leaving it and coming back - then there are all the pop-up crap on the display so I have to click on the rkill to get rid of them all, and then nothing else will work... and it will even do a bootup without me touching anything.

Please save this file to your desktop. Double-click on it to run a scan. When it's finished, there will be a log called Win32kDiag.txt on your desktop. Please open it with notepad and post the contents here. (Please allow the application to finish. You will know as the last sentence in the report will be "Finished".)

Freaky thing JUST happened here on hubby's computer - sound... music and talking just came out of the speakers. Some guy with a british accent talking to another. I couldn't really hear cause the volume is turned way down and it stopped before I could turn it up.

And there are no other programs visibly running....

Seems to be the job of a rootkit, but even the RootRepeal log is incomplete.

Please rename GMER.EXE to Mypoppy.EXE and attempt to run it. Also attempt to run RootRepeal once again. Allow these applications to run unhindered until a complete report is produced so we can have a good idea of what the problem may be.

If unable to run these programs in Normal Mode, attempt in Safe mode, including Combofix.
