My sister has a Dell Inspiron 600M laptop / notebook. Looking at the either one of these Linksys routers combos WRT54G with WPC54G or WRT54GS with WPC54GS. Her ISP is SBC DSL . OS is XP Pro.

Which one should I use.

Thanks
ashworth. :flowers:

I would recommend the first combo. reason, for the difference in price, is it even worth it to purchase a "juiced up" g-standard router/pcmcia combo when your isp provides 1.5-5meg service? with the first combo set, you can achieve speeds of up to 54mbs. the only time you will use that bandwidth, is when you transfer computer to computer. either way, you will have a very decent router and nic. i sell linksys to clients whenever i can, compared to other brands we carry it has the best reliability, option sets than other dsl routers. PS-i have a wrt54g router.

Thanks Snapper!

Went with your choice! When I get it should get the latest firmware for it, or leave it alone ?

I checked and they a new firmware release 7/20/05.

Firmware 4.70.6
- Resolves issue with setup wizard
- Updated wireless security tab
- Resolves issue with port based QoS

I got it up and running and its working fine. Should I leave well enough alone?

Thanks for all the help!

yea maybe they will, they are so damn hungry from missing thier millions of dollard salary last yeAR! lol

yes, you should update your firmware, it takes seconds, and there is a reason that they take the trouble and give firmware updates. you will notice a big difference in the options !

whatever you do, haqve fun!
