explorer.exe shorts out whenever a taskbar related icon tries to do anything

This has developed in the past few days, putting a bit of a speed bump for my Win 7 updating. (which should come in 1-2 days). Don't want to update a problem to my nice new OS.

It is only an occasional thing- explorer ends when programs like itunes (set to "minimize to task bar") or Maxtor Status Icon (for my external hdd's backup util.) are executed.

Let me know anything you need in addition to this, I can provide most if not all info you need.

Just that explorer.exe had ended (not intentional by me) and Vista restarts it (Vista doesn't restart, just explorer.exe)
