network protection?

i just started a network on two computers at home. the one with the router has protection but do i need it for the other one or is it protected through first computer. i'm running win me with the router, and win98 on the other. thanks

Are both computers connected through the router?

Routers have a built in NAT which is basiclly like a firewall.
