Hi, Newbee here. I love bleepingcomputer.com! I'm sick and I've been on here for a while today cleaning up my laptop.
Thanks to your startup section, I was able to learn which items I could safely remove from msconfig startup
I did one at a time restarting after each one with no problems.

When I was done, I tried running Spybot. It opened but would not update.
When trying I get the message "Error retrieving update info file"
I tried reinstalling, had to do so from a mirror because Safernetworking would not open.
Reinstalled with the same result.
I tried checking for problems but it tells me to update first.
Just wondering if anyone's heard about safernetworking.org being down?

Thanks, Jon

Hi and Welcome to Bleepingcomputer,

After reading your post I tried to update Spybot to see if I had the same problem, and I did. It is obviously a problem on their end so just try it again later.

I only use Spybot to immunize my system and to use their startup section, which is a better way to control startups than MSConfig is. MSConfig should not be used as a startup manager.

Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware are better programs for looking for malware, so you might want to give those a try. You can download those from.....
