Earlier my Zone Alarm sent alert and went into action as my entire screen disappeared bringing up my desktop with a deep blue background.
A notice in middle of screen saying "download this malware tool to save ur info"....Which I xed out and it kept returning throughout Zone's scan.
It found 8 items which it secured and deleted or quarantined. One of which had to be completed upon restart ... only it will not restart...it does
try but then reverts back to closing screen with Welcome on it....but does not close either. I am on my laptop sending this... Please advise as
to how I can get this out of my system. I have a Dell - use XP - Chrome browser...

Thank you
Amanda Z.

Not exactly sure what you mean by the above statement.

Please describe what happens when you attempt to start the computer ...
* normally
* in Safe Mode (... by tapping F8 after pressing the ON button, and choosing to start in Safe Mode. If you are presented with the option to log into the Administrator account or your own account, try logging into the Administrator account.)

When I attempt to log on the system will go to Windows 'Welcome' page and try
saying 'Finding Your Files' then jump right back to "Closing Your Files" as if in
shutdown mode - but remains there as if stuck.

Also I did try Admin in Safe Mode and have the exact same results...with and
without Networking option.

Thank you,
Amanda

Amanda,
That sounds to me a lot like the classic "logon/logoff loop". It would seem that one of your Windows system files (?userinit.exe) was infected, and the ZA antivirus removed it.

This should get you out of trouble ...
Logon/Logoff Loop fix ..... thinkinginpixels

Good luck.
