Windows XP - No Start Menu / Start Bar, nothing

When I turn on my computer, sign in, enter password, I get my usual screen. However, that is all I get. I do not get the tool bar with start, run, computer.... not on the top, bopttom or sides.... It is not there. So, I have to go to task manager by, ALT, CRL, and DELET, all at once.. this can not be good, either but -- I want my start bar back. Help

I tried to restore to a different date, but it did not work, and now I can not find it again. Don't know how I did it the first time.

Anyone have suggestions, remember I can not get into any programs, so don't tell me to go to the control panel, because I can't. (I am not being mean or snippety :flowers: , I just know that's what I really want to do, but can't) help

mscoolwood

Hello mscoolwood and  to BleepingComputer.

Try this for me.

Bring up the Task Manager and select File>New Task (Run...). In the box that appears type explorer and hit the Enter key. Does your Desktop appear? If it does not, and you receive an error message, please post back to me with the exact text of the message.
