Hi folks. My friends mac has been locked at login screen and he needs help.

He has asked me to burn him a mac osx disc to reinstall the operating system.

I have downloaded a .dmg file and i am trying to burn it on my PC

I have tried changing the extension to .iso, and many other things, to no avail.

am i looking at a lot of trouble in doing this? or is there a secret method you guys know?!

Your looking at a lot of trouble in trying it. There are no OSX downloads that you can burn to a disc to install onto a Mac. Tell your friend to try a safe boot or run fsck. If his Mac starts up fine tell him to get an external drive and create a bootable backup of his startup disk for times like these. It'll be better than getting a retail install disk.

You can change the .dmg to .iso and burn it with imgburn. I would definately make a copy first, leave your original a .dmg.
