Hello.

I am hoping that someone can lead me through the steps necessary to remove SHeur2.BTQK.

I first received a notice from AVG that I had the infection yesterday (2009-11-24). I tried to use AVG to remove the selected infection with little success. The first listed infection was shown to have been moved to the Virus Vault, but the others were never resolved.

Today, AVG showed about four times as many infections in the Resident Shield Alert and the computer performance has degraded markedly.

I have pasted the DDS.txt log from DDS.scr below. (Curiously, Windows would not let me run it as an .scr - it said no program was associated with that extension. I had to change the extension to .exe to get it to run.) Attach.txt is, well, attached.

I downloaded and ran RootRepeal as instructed in the Preparation Guide, but it errored out. I have posted the crash logs and the error log I saved while it was crashing.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give!
Mike

More info on RootRepeal not working: now when I click on the icon, the "Initializing, please wait" screen appears but then nothing further happens; the please wait message just stays there until I reboot. If I click the icon again (before rebooting that is), the program will start, but I still get the error messages and it generates only crash reports.

I am hoping that someone can help me - the computer seems to get slower every time I reboot. (In fact, I am getting notifications from Windows that my virtual memory is running low. This has not happened in the past.)

Mike

Hello.
Since my last post I have run ComboFix to see if it would eliminate the trojan. Thus far I have not seen any pop-ups from AVG warning me of infection, but on the other hand past experience tells me that trojans are never so easily eradicated and are frequently lurking under the radar. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can confirm whether or not I am infection free.

Per your request, the latest results of DDS.scr are included.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer. My name is m0le and I will be helping you with your log.
  • Please subscribe to this topic, if you haven't already. You can subscribe by clicking the Options box to the right of your topic title and selecting Track This Topic.

  • Please avoid installing/uninstalling or updating any programs and attempting any unsupervised fixes or scans. This can make helping you impossible.

  • Please reply to this post so I know you are there.
The forum is busy and we need to have replies as soon as possible. If I haven't had a reply after 3 days I will bump the topic and if you do not reply by the following day after that then I will close the topic.

You should not run ComboFix unless you are specifically asked to by a helper. Also, due to the power of this tool it is strongly advised that you do not attempt to act upon any of the information displayed by ComboFix without supervision from someone who has been properly trained. If you do so, it may lead to problems with the normal functionality of your computer.

Can you please post the Combofix log from that run :(

M0le,
Thanks for the reply.

I have pasted the log from ComboFix below. Since running it on 29-Nov, I believe the only new program I have installed is a file downloader from a site I trust (I think).

Also since running ComboFix, I have not received any further warnings from AVG regarding the Trojan that caused me to open this topic. However, I know they can fly under the radar, so I would like to know for certain whether it (and any other infections) has been removed.

Please let me know what the next steps are.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike77,

The Combofix log shows you had the Recycler trojan but the logs are clean and you are experiencing no problems.

You're clean! :(

Last thing...we should clear up and set up the PC now that it's clean

Uninstall ComboFix

Remove Combofix now that we're done with it.
  • Please press the Windows Key and R on your keyboard. This will bring up the Run... command.
(For Vista/Windows 7 please click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Run)
  • Now type in Combofix /Uninstall in the runbox and click OK. (Notice the space between "Comfix" and "/")
  • Please follow the prompts to uninstall Combofix.
  • You will then receive a message saying Combofix was uninstalled successfully once it's done uninstalling itself.
This will uninstall Combofix and anything associated with it.

Download and Run OTC

We will now remove the tools we used during this fix using OTC.
  • Download OTC by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click Posted Image icon to start the program. If you are using Vista, please right-click and choose run as administrator
  • Then Click the big Posted Image button.
  • You will get a prompt saying "Being Cleanup Process". Please select Yes.
  • Restart your computer when prompted.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's some advice on how you can keep your PC clean

Update your AntiVirus Software

It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out. If you use a commercial antivirus program you must make sure you keep renewing your subscription. Otherwise, once your subscription runs out, you may not be able to update the programs virus definitions.

Make sure your applications have all of their updates

It is also possible for other programs on your computer to have security vulnerability that can allow malware to infect you. Therefore, it is also a good idea to check for the latest versions of commonly installed applications that are regularly patched to fix vulnerabilities. You can check these by visiting Secunia Software Inspector and Calendar of Updates.

Install an AntiSpyware Program

A highly recommended AntiSpyware program is SuperAntiSpyware. You can download the free Home Version. or the Pro version for a 15 day trial period.

Installing this or another recommended program will provide spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should scan your computer with an AntiSpyware program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

Finally, here's a treasure trove of antivirus, antimalware and antispyware resources

That's it mike_77, happy surfing!

Cheers.
