Windows Update

Asus laptop 64 bit Vista
After a routine windows update my laptop wil not connect to the internet. My connection to the router is fine. I can connect via Express Gate. I cannot download anything from this mode, it will not let me save anything. I cannot run any disk in windows. It says that this is not a valid WIN32 software. I am locked down. Any help Please.
PS I set a restore point in safemode before the windows update NO HELP

Remember to check the box that says Fix Windows Updates
