Hello! :(
My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

In order to see what's going on with your computer I will ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from here
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\eventlog.dll /s /md5
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\scecli.dll /s /md5
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\netlogon.dll /s /md5

    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\viamraid.sys /s /md5
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\nvata.sys /s /md5

  • Click the "Quick Scan" button.
  • The scan should take just a few minutes.
  • Please copy and paste both logs back here in your next reply.

Hi Sam thank you very much for your help. The Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software is a trial version only that only fixes 20 errors only and there is no update screen when I download.....should I still go ahead?

No that's the full version. Uninstall it.
Use this link and it should take you to the download for the free version.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Then proceed with the rest of the steps.

Hi Sam

Thanks again for the link to the malware bytes programme but I keep getting linked to the trial version which can only fix 20 errors. Could it be because I am in the UK or something?

Regards
Scott

That's odd. Let's try something else.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

That doesn't indicate too much. What are the problems that you're having currently?

Computer is running really slow and sometimes when I try to open up my homepage the page just freezes and doesnt open up. When I close this down and try again it seems to open ok the 2nd time. It also seems to take ages to boot up and it sometimes gets stuck in the boot up procedure. Until recently I had loads of pop ups giving me a list of the amount of huge amounts of spyware and reg. problems. But that has seemed to have disappeared? It also seemed to have a problem in running my antivirus (etrust) but I eventually after a good deal of difficulty was able to download spybot and I can now run my antivirus.

There does seem to be registry issues and spyware but the software we used last didn't seem to be able to find it and list it?

Thanks again for your continued support

Scott

I'm not seeing any indication of malware in your logs.

Until recently I had loads of pop ups giving me a list of the amount of huge amounts of spyware and reg. problems. But that has seemed to have disappeared?

The question here is what took place that changed this behavior?
Did your antivirus remove the malware infection that was causing the popups? Or another program?

There does seem to be registry issues and spyware but the software we used last didn't seem to be able to find it and list it?

The programs that we run are looking specifically for malware and they won't resolve registry issues unless they are malware related. But you may have hit on the reason for your computer running so slowly now. I see evidence in your log that you've recently run a registry cleaner/optimizer. I don't recommend running these programs. The performance boost is actually negligible and the risk for causing more problems is quite high.

Fortunately you've got system restore running and it seems to be working ok. I would try using system restore to go back to a restore point when these issues didn't exist. That may restore some of the malware problems you were having before, but malware is much easier to deal with than registry corruption in most cases.
